TRAINING ON HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT IN NUCLEAR SECURITY: MANAGEMENT OWNERSHIP



The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is organizing a training on Human Resource Development in Nuclear Security for Officers of managerial levels for various stakeholders in Abuja-Nigeria.

As part of its objectives, the training will focus on the establishment of quality and sustainable programmes in the field of nuclear security, improvement of personnel performance, ownership of managers for quality training and competence. It also seeks to address the existing gap in the area human resource development as regards nuclear security.

In the opening speech of the Acting Director General/ CEO, Dr. Yau Usman-Idris delivered by Dr. Nasiru A. Bello of the Nuclear Safety, Physical Security and Safeguards, welcomed all IAEA experts and stakeholders present at the training stating that the NNRA would continue to work in close cooperation with the IAEA and other International agencies to ensure effective and sustainable nuclear security in Nigeria.

He opined that if the nuclear security regime is to remain effective, it needs to be sustained overtime at both the national and operative levels. He also added that Human resource development is one important element of this sustainability thus ensuring the continued availability of appropriate numbers of personnel with the necessary competencies.

Mr. Alexey Kazennov; Training officer in the division of Nuclear Security, department of Nuclear Safety and Security of the IAEA welcomed all participants to the seminar and thanked the NNRA for hosting the Seminar and hoped for good deliberations as Human Resource Development is Key in the area of Nuclear Security.

The participating stakeholder organizations include representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nigerian Custom Service (NCS), The Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Directorate of Security Services (DSS), Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), Center for Energy Research and Technology (CERT) Zaria, experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and few Management Staff of the NNRA.

The five day training programme is scheduled to end on Friday 5th August, 2019.
