REVIEW OF THE NATIONAL DESIGN BASIS THREAT FOR NUCLEAR AND RADIOLOGICAL FACILITIES IN NIGERIA, September 2018.


The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) is organizing a three-day stakeholders meeting to review the National Design Basis Threat (DBT) for Nuclear and Radioactive facilities in Nigeria. The Technical meeting takes place from the 26th- 28th September, 2018 in the boardroom of the NNRA Headquarters Abuja- Nigeria. In attendance will be representatives from; Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Department of Security Services (DSS), the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), the Centre for Energy Research & Training (CERT) as well as management and some Staff of NNRA.

Declaring the meeting open, the DG/CEO NNRA Prof. Lawrence Dim stated that the DBT is reviewed every two (2) years in cognizance with changes as regards national security, physical protection systems, current threats, exposures and intelligence information in nuclear and radiological facilities in the country. He said the meeting was a crucial one and hoped for credible deliberations during the sessions. He further urged the participants to consider their work as important since it bothers on National Security.

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority is hoping for a pragmatic outcome to this Review as it proffers solutions to evolving threat in the country.
