A team from the Nassarawa State University, Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources, Keffi (NSUK) paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority on the 23rd January, 2019 at its Headquarters in Abuja. The team was led by Professor Charles O. Ofeogbu, a Director from the Institute.

The DG/CEO of the NNRA, Professor L.A Dim in his opening remark welcomed the Director and his team to the NNRA.

Professor Charles O. Ofeogbu thanked the DG and his management staff for the warm welcome and said their visit to the NNRA was at the instance of the Vice Chancellor of the Nassarawa State University, Keffi; Professor Bala Suleiman Mohammed. He said the Institute was established because of the various exploration activities going on around Nassarawa State as the State was situated within the Island basins.

He noted that the core objectives of the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources was to carry out researches and trainings in several areas however not limited to petrophysics, geodynamics, ground water studies, mineral resources evaluation, geothermal resource and evaluation, geophysics, engineering and environmental geology and physics.

The University seeks for collaboration with the NNRA to build a good working relationship and explore the mandates of each institution in the areas of expertise, training, research development amongst others.

In response, the DG/CEO said the visit was apt as nuclear science and technology, geophysics and geosciences were central to the NNRA mandate hence the need for a collaboration through a memorandum of understanding for purposes of expertise, education, research, training and human capacity developments.

In closing, it was agreed that an MOU would be drafted based on the minutes of the meeting for both parties. He thanked the team for visiting the NNRA and looked forward to a fruitful future collaboration.
